Chivas to Book Their Tickets to the Next Round.
By: Mauro | September 17th, 2008
Club Deportivo Guadalajara vs. Aragua Fútbol Club (Estadio Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico)
LIVE @ 7:30pm PST on Fox Sports Español. Gamecast here. Online TV here.
In the first leg, Chivas picked up quite the away win in Venezuela against local side Aragua Fútbol Club. The Mexican side had a tough time finding the net and shared the ball with the Venezuelan side. Despite being down in the second half, a heroic performance helped them turn the tables on their hosts and today they expect to seal their tickets into the next round.
Another squad with a poor local league record trying to take home some silverware is Chivas Guadalajara. They are coming off a 2-5 loss to Pachuca this last Saturday and are looking to lift their fans’ spirits with a qualification to the Round of 16 where they could face Atlético Paranaense, the side that ousted 2007 Brasileirao champs, São Paulo.
Aragua, on the other hand, like Vasco, appear to be stumbling out of this competition. They have only managed to win 1 out of their last 4 matches and are in 10th place in their local league.
Bottom Line: This is the battle to see who is the most pitiful team of the two. Aragua seem like they could be pushed over and out and Chivas, well, I could never count out a Mexican side in a CONMEBOL tournament.
My Pick: 1-0 to Chivas. While Aragua are quite shit, Chivas are a little less shit than they are right now and that’s why they will win.
