América had been winning despite having grave institutional problems and had been doing so in decent fashion. I mean, a win’s a win, right? Well, without being too spectacular about it, América had been getting results. Botafogo come into town at just the right time for the Colombian side. And to be completely honest, this result surprised me more than any other last night.

At first both teams seemed to be sizing each other up. But América seemed more timid and that’s why Botafogo had the ball a bit more but failed to make America keeper, Adrian Berbia, nervous at all. Bu as time wore on, América found it’s groove in the match and Victor Cortés started to be able to see the whites of, Botafogo’s Uruguayan keeper, Juan Castillo’s eyes.

The match was a bit back and forth for a while, with América midfielder John Valencia pushing his squad up the pitch and Carlos Alberto doing the same for Botafogo. But sooner or later, Botafogo began focusing more and more on the defensive end where they started to hold the local side.

The second half, Botafogo was more assertive in trying to take the lead with chances early in the second half. But that only opened up the match even more and soon América was also attacking. With more open play this match was great for the impartial fan and proved to be even better for the Américanistas.

In the 73rd minute, off a corner kick cross that went off Argentine José Pepe Moreno and then to Gustavo Ramos who knocked in the only goal of this match with his right foot. 1-0 to América and the crowd went wild.

The match remained open and both sides insisted on attacking and they both shared close calls but it was all for not. The match ended 1-0 to América and the Pascual Guerrero stadium is still a safe haven for América. The only problem is that they have to play in the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange “El Engenhão” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I had this match ending in a 1-0 to América and I was fucking right! Awesome. See you next week with more info from this one.
